Description The scholar will analyze climate processes and trends in data sets obtained by instruments in the NASA A-Train satellite constellation. Observed quantities include total precipitable water vapor, cloud properties, and profiles of temperature and water vapor. This work involves examining relationships between observations from several remote sensing methods, including passive infrared and microwave remote sounders, imagers, and cloud lidars and radars. Part of the work involves estimating uncertainties in the satellite observations through intercomparison, and comparison with radiosonde observations. The project is creating a climatology of atmospheric temperature and water vapor under varying cloud conditions.
